Overview

Restoran Fun Kee Bamboo Noodle 芬記手工竹升金蛋麵 stands as a testament to authentic Chinese noodle craftsmanship nestled in the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s Taman Shamelin Perkasa. This unassuming eatery specializes in traditional hand-crafted bamboo noodles, skillfully prepared to preserve the rich textures and flavors that define classic Cantonese cuisine.

The restaurant’s signature dishes showcase the depth and variety of their culinary expertise. Their wantan mee offers springy, al dente noodles that strike a perfect balance between bite and softness. The noodles, thinner than usual but not overly delicate, carry a satisfying chewiness that pairs exquisitely with their kon lou sauce — a blend that is both savory and nuanced without overpowering the palate. Accompanying wantans, filled generously with minced pork, bring a comforting Hakka-style note, steering clear of the usual prawn fillings for a homelier touch.

Beyond the traditional wantan mee, dishes such as braised pork trotters, Cantonese-style beef kuey teow, and dry curry chicken noodles reveal a menu thoughtfully curated to cater to varied preferences. The beef hor fun stands out with tender, silky slices and wok hei that enhances its smoky character, though some portions may benefit from slight improvement in tenderness. Fried rice and shrimp dumplings add textural contrasts and a satisfying richness to complete the meal experience.

The space itself is clean and well-maintained, offering a bright, airy atmosphere that complements the hearty food. The setting is intimate and efficient, though smaller than the previous location, making it an ideal spot for small families, food enthusiasts, and local office workers seeking authentic Chinese flavors in a casual environment. Friendly and attentive service ensures a warm welcome, with the boss and staff displaying genuine hospitality that enhances the overall dining experience.

Parking can be a challenge given its urban location, but nearby kopitiams and eateries create a lively food district atmosphere that invites exploration. The restaurant’s planned move to a more spacious venue in Shamelin by August 2025 is highly anticipated, promising easier access while maintaining the same culinary standards. This transition underscores their growth and sustained popularity within Kuala Lumpur’s vibrant food scene.

In summary, Restoran Fun Kee Bamboo Noodle excels in delivering traditional handmade noodle dishes with a perfect harmony of textures and flavors. The establishment welcomes both longtime fans and curious newcomers, rewarding patrons with a dining experience steeped in heritage and genuine taste. Whether you seek a comforting bowl of wantan mee or crave the boldness of their curry-infused offerings, this restaurant continues to earn its place as a must-visit destination for Chinese noodle lovers in Malaysia’s capital.

Legendary restaurant. The place is clean, spacious. Boss and staffs are all super friendly and hospitable⭐. Above all the food , especially the wantan bamboo noodles (large 12.50 ringgits), is excellent and lived up to its reputation ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. The noodles is super delicious, served al dente, and the sauce mix is very balanced and delicious! The fried bamboo noodles is also very good and finally the cantonese fried hor fun with beef is super duper excellent with lots of wok hei and seasonings! The beef is super tender! Price for three items including drinks is 45 ringgits, very reasonable! Overall an absolutely satisfying experience. The shop is due to move to Shamelin in August 2025 because parking in the current place is becoming more and more difficult over the years. So glad that we came to dine here in this historic restaurant before it moves to a new home ⭐. Highly recommended..! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Wantan mee was absolutely delicious! The texture of the noodles was bouncy, the kon lou sauce on point, and the wantan had generous fillings. My only grouse (not a big one though) was the char siew which I felt was a bit too charred. It tasted more burnt than anything else. Kopi ping wasn't great, didn't have oomph. But ok la, I would gladly go again for the noodles

Haven't been to the old shop for some years. And received notice that they had moved to Shamelin. Paid a visit and the homemade noodles still tastes as good. Some new items on the menu. Tried the braised beef noodles. Pretty good. Wantan - both soup and fried were average. Coffee was great thou which is very important for me! Location wise - parking can be challenging but park further will be alright. There are a few kopitiams nearby hence may help to bring in new patrons. Service was prompt and friendly and the boss welcomes feedbacks. This shop is bright and airy but smaller than the old shop

Drove all the way from Shah Alam to try, frankly speaking, was having second thoughts when arrived in front of the shop. Feels a bit too small compared to the photo in Google review. Looks clean, but don't know why, doesn't have the urge to go in an try..... Anyway, 来都来了,give it a try bah... Ordered their signature char siew wanton mee, wattan beef horfun, and fried beef horfun....walaoeh, damn good wor.. Even the wanton soup taste special, only mistake is never order semi lean charsiew. Get the lean one, too dry. Wanton noodle is slimmer than the regular type, but not too slim like Hong Kong type. Crunchy type. Ngam ngam my taste. Taste more to salty side. Wanton filling is minced pork no prawn, taste like Hakka nyongtaufu filling. Love it. Beef is silky smooth, but some portion a bit hard to chew. Tenderness need to be improve. Drinks taste superb, Cham Ice, Milo O, kopi, all OK.

Having just opened a week ago, we couldn’t resist trying the long-awaited noodles, made the traditional way with bamboo. We ordered the signature char siew noodles – definitely impressive. The texture of the noodles is nice & springy. Paired with curry chicken & curry ‘tau pok’, the dish has a unique and bold flavor. The beef ‘wat tan hor’ is delicious and satisfying, albeit on the salty side. The silky soft wantons are complemented by the addictive crunch of ‘chee yau char’. Lastly, the hazelnut white coffee is a steal - at $3.50, cheap & cheerful. For a newly opened spot, the lunch crowd is surprisingly intense.

Loved their springy noodles and aromatic sauce. Both char siew wantan and beef brisket is good, while curry was on the sweet side. Would love to come back to try other dishes.
